Faux Embossing

Hello Everyone! My name is Debbie some of you out there in the wonderful world of crafting, know me as doodlingdebbie. I'm honored to have been asked to be a part of the Bug Bytes design team. This month I decided to do something on the simple side. I've been a bit under the weather so doing something with simplicity is the avenue I had to travel this week. I hope you enjoy this technique and can use it on some of your favorite paper crafting projects.

I love using different mediums when creating crafts and cards. Digital medium has become so popular in the card and scrapbook world. One of the things I really enjoy is using Photoshop to create my own paper, backgrounds, and images. Remembering, (unusual for me at times) the tangerine Pantone color was this year's color, I decided to us tangerine as a part of the Butterfly Dream card.

One of the many things I like to do is create faux embossing. I've made seals to place on the back of envelopes to kick it up a notch when mailing cards out for the holidays.

This butterfly embossed paper was created by making a Photoshop brush from a picture of the Silhouette Studio cutting file. Once I made the PS brush it was as easy as pie to give it the embossed look. I selected the color white to use with the new butterfly brush I created. Once I had the butterflies sized and in place. I did a color overlay of the tangerine color, then chose the  bevel and emboss in the "layer style" window. The gradient background from tangerine to white was created using Filter and textures in Photoshop. I know it looks like the Gradient tool was used but using the Filter tools gave the texture and look I was hoping to achieve. When I'm feeling better I'll do a nice video tutorial to share with everyone.

Using my awesome Silhouette Cameo I cut out the butterfly and tag. The pretty little faux pearls were made by using Inkssentials Glossy Enamel Accents. I love this stuff!

The faux embossed butterfly paper was printed on Royal Brites Matte Photo paper. It says heavy weight but it's not as heavy as card stock. Because it's not very heavy weighted paper, I printed it out then adhered it to a card stock background. The last little detail was using a thin strip of silver toned paper to create a delicate and simple border at the bottom of the card.

I'm not the best photographer in the world. I promise the colors, when seen in person are lovely.
