Happy Holidays

Hi scrappers, this is Kate from Sassy and Scrappy. Today I'm sharing a couple of holiday cards with you. I have a fun stamp set from Papertrey Ink with all kinds of "petite" images. I didn't want them to be overwhelmed by the card so I slimmed down my cards to 4 1/4 by 4-inches, which will still fit in a standard size envelop. I stamped a bunch of images and then colored them with my Copics.

As the holidays approach we all find ourselves busier than ever, so I wanted to simplify my cards, this way I can still deliver a handmade item without overwhelming myself in the process.

Details:
  • Rustic White Cardstock Papertrey Ink
  • Pattern Paper-My Mind's Eye: 'The Merry Days of Christmas' and 'Be Merry' (6x6)

  • Hemp
  • Scallop Border Punch: Stampin' Up!

Christmas Mini Album using Jolly Holidays

Hi everyone, Beth here from thunderbirdlindybydesign.  I haven't posted on The Bug Bytes since early spring.  Pam allowed me to take the summer off to get some things done around the house.  I had every intention of having this done by 6 am this morning, but it just didn't work out.  I wanted to make a mini with acrylic windows in is like a house.  I started by using my gypsy and searching for houses.  Jolly Holidays came up and it had 5 different house shapes on it.  I used all 5 sizing each to be 7.90 tall.  I used bits and pieces out of their layers also.  I put one house on the mat and then using George, I used the rectangle and fit it inside the house sizing the rectangle until I was happy with the size.  I hid contours on the house except for the outline of the house, and cut them out.  1 from chipboard, and 2 from cardstock, flipping the image on one of the cardstock cuts.

I attached the a piece of acrylic to the front of the chipboard and then layered the front piece of cardstock to that.

Here is what the piece looks like with the cardstock, chipboard, and acrylic.  Unfortunately you can't see the acrylic in this pic.

On the flip side I attached another piece of acrylic to the flipped cardstock.  I didn't have any photo paper, so I couldn't print out last years Christmas pics and put inside the layers, so when I attached to back of the back side of the house to the front side, I left the top unglued so I could slip the pics inside after I get them printed.

I then cut the rest of the houses and their layers.  I had to cut some of the snow for the roof so the pics would show and the snow would not overlap the acrylic.

Here is the finished album.

I used Eskimo Kisses cardstock for this project that I had left over from last year.  On one of the sheets was tiny colorful deer.  So one of my carts had the deer cut on it and I added that to the back page.  I also punched snowflakes that I glittered.  My daughter walked in at that point so I asked her to add the snowflakes to the album how she wanted.  She insisted on adding the pearl rhinestones to each snowflake.

Thanks Pam for allowing me to be a guest designer, until next month, Beth.

Scrappin Saturday - Thanksgiving card

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.
I wanted to share a quick card I made for Thanksgiving today.
Now surprise I did not use any die cutting system except scissors and a fiskar cutter for this one. My handy dandy Dover Image and Illustrator , some cardstock (green) and pattern paper, ink, glue - zip dry and pop dots and glue dots, some twine and ribbon and wait for it - a party ring and I was in business. Party ring ? what party ring? Someone gave my son some party rings  in goody bag. He told me Mom I am a boy what will I do with this? You can have it and so the party ring was manhandled and the ring part cut off (pretty easily as it was plastic) and lo behold an embellishment.
Here is the card

And here is the images I printed out

The border/pattern in the pattern was a bit too large and I wanted more of the brown to show through so I cut the border/pattern and used it for the inside and the label sentiment on inside.

The label yellow was left over scrap from another project I wrote Happy Thanksgiving on it and doodled a bit . Matted it with brown pattern paper. Added some more border pieces which I had cut .Tied some twine and added a blue rhinestone and card is done.
A quick simple card for Thanksgiving.
Thanks for reading this post . I so love to hear your feedback and comments. Thanks for taking the time to leave comments. It is so much appreciated and inspiring.
Please do share your Thanksgiving Card in the linky tool below.

Stocking Stuffers: Post-it Note holders

I am so happy to be spending the day with Pam at BugBytes once again. It is
so much fun to be with friends at the holidays, but it is also fun to make little gifts for
them as well. And these Post-it Note holders are so much fun -- and so easy to complete.
Everyone will get one!
But, first, I have to thank Poppy Hill Designs for her fantastic idea...
And now to my "spin" on it!

Oops! I almost forgot! Be sure to add the Post-it Notes to the inside of the holder.
Align the bottom (un-stuck) edge to the edge of the holder opposite the pen.

I hope you have enjoyed our visit today! I most definitely have.

Grateful Banner

Hey Everyone!
I am grateful this time of year because of the cooler weather and the wonderful smells that go along with the holiday season. Today I wanted to share a banner that I made. This banner is currently hanging in the arch way between my living room and dining room.

I used the new cricut cartridge Ribbons & Rosettes.
Here are my impressions of the cartridge
  • This cartridge is going to use a lot of trial and error.
  • For the rosettes that I used, I cut 4 shapes and adhered them together. But each shape has different amount of score lines so you might need more or less pieces to make you rosette the right shape
  • The score lines are useless. If you have a gypsy, hide them
  • After figuring out how many pieces I needed it was very simple to use.

Products used:
Pattern Paper: Recolletions Autumn Paper Pack
Cardstock: Stampin' Up
Cricut Cartridges - Mickey Font, Elegant Edges

Happy Thanksgiving Canvas Art

Hi everyone.  It's Debbie O'Neal here from Debs Eclectic Thoughts Blog.  Are you ready for the feasting to begin?  It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a few days away.  This year we will be staying in town with a  much smaller crowd at our house than last year.  And for that I am thankful !  Last year we did a HUGE  Family Reunion Thanksgiving that was fun but glad we get to have a little more relaxing time this year with just the immediate family.  If you want to see decor I made for last years event, check out this blog post http://debseclecticthoughts.blogspot.com/2011/11/getting-ready-for-thanksgiving.html.

I wanted to make something to display our Family Reunion Thanksgiving Photo of all of us so I made an altered canvas.  Have you tried doing one of these?  A 12X12 canvas, some ink and paint and scrapbook papers and embellishements and you have yourself a piece of canvas art to display a photo proudly.

They are so fun to make and pretty easy depending on how elaborate you want to make it. Details are on my blog if you want to try your hand at making one.  They are great to alter for any season. I am already working on a Christmas themed one.

Now I just need to go pick up the photo to put on it and I am all set to add it on the buffet serving table as part of the Thanksgiving decor this year.   Wishing each of you a Happy Thanksgiving....Gobble, Gobble !!!

Take A Picture

Happy Sunday before Thanksgiving everyone!  It's Sabrina from Sabriolet Designs.  As always, thanks are due to my fabulous friend Pam for having me guest design here on the 3rd Sunday of every month.  This week I have more scrapbook pages for you.  Yes, I am definitely in a scrapbooking phase.  Lol.  I don't know if any of you spend any time perusing the gallery over at Two Peas.  I am always intrigued by scrapbook pages that have this teeny, tiny photo sitting alone, a few small embellishments, and then, well, nothing else.  I think this new stream lined look is definitely *in* to some degree. While it doesn't feel like my style, I can't help but be intrigued by pages that don't have much on them, but still turn out very pretty.  So I decided I was going to attempt a more stripped down look for these next pages.  I also wanted to try a technique I saw in one my my crafting magazines (can't remember which one sorry!) which was to frame out part of a picture.  I've had this photograph of my boys and I from a Mini Golf trip we took last year.   We are in the corner of the photo so it sort of lends itself to this technique.

The frames are from the Cricut cartridges Sophie and Cindy Lou respectfully.  I think I ultimatley like the second one better.  After inking it with chocolate chip (Stampin' Up), I still felt like it was lacking something so I decided to add some bling to the corners, and it just grew from there.  I've had those pearls in my stash for almost a year and I'm always giddy when I get to use something that I really liked but just couldn't *work in* any other project.

Something else new that I tried was stamping on a layout.  The picture is a 6 x 6 photo that I trimmed down to 5.75 x 5.75.  I stamped, in Craft ink on the top page, and then Old Olive on the bottom page the floral stamp from Stampin' Up's Elements of Style.  I then cut the mat out from Elegant Edges and the result is a custom designer paper.  More stamping can be seen on the tags, flower pot and leaves.  I also used Waltzingmouse stamps that coordinate with Spellbinders Labels 18 to create the journaling tag and mat you see at the top.  Again, I used the flourish stamp to give the paper a bit more interest.

The last  major element on this page worth mentioning are the flowers coming out of the flower pot.  I was inspired by my friend over at Cool Beans by L.B. who created this really cute card with flowers and stems coming out of a pot. This is my attempt at a more 3D version.  The flower pot is from the Make The Cut gallery.  I used baker's twine from the Twinery for stems and finally, the flowers are a mixture of flowers cut and quilled from Flower Shoppe (the leaves are also on the Flower Shoppe cartridge) and from my stash.  I wasn't terribly happy with the flowers overall.  I think this might have been the one time it would have been better to make them less 3D. But I don't hate them and I will remember that for next time.

Here are a few more pictures of the pages.

"GOBBLE-GOBBLE' TURKEY TREAT BOX!!!

Hello, everyone!!!  It's Audrey, and thanks to our sweet Pam I'm back with another fun project.

Today my box project is not from a cut file -- I just didn't feel like doing all the figuring out how to design a project and wanted something different anyway, so I did something different!!!  LOL!!!  I made a box from scratch with a turkey image I found on the internet.  Ready to see it?!!!  Well, here it is:

Here's a top view of the treat box where the treats are tucked away:

This box may look a bit complicated, but it was soooo easy!  It's simply taking a picture of one of the turkeys, flipping another of the pictures, and gluing them back-to-back so there's a turkey on both sides; I did two sets.  Next I measure a box sized to fit and glue between the sets of turkeys, and I had a treat box!!!  Here, let me show you.

First, from the image I found on the internet,  I printed out 4 turkeys in WordPerfect onto cardstock (2 turkeys per page) and flipped1 on each page for my 2 sets of turkeys:

I cut out all four (4) turkeys, took  2 of the flipped opposites as shown on the picture below, and glued it back to back; I did the same with the other set of 2 -- BUT wait, I didn't do the second set just yet!!!  You'll see why in a minute.

Using one of the turkeys from the second set,  I measured what size treat box I'd need to fit between my turkeys by outlining the size of the box on the back of the turkey (I didn't worry about drawing on the turkey because I'd be gluing the other one to the backside.  This is why I waited).  I determined the width of my box would be 1.50" and the length  3.50".  Look about right, huh? :

Now, so just how did I figure out how to do my box scaled to this size?  Well, it was easy and my method can be used to fit any size image; let me explain.  I know I want my box now to be 1.50" inches across and 3.50" down to fit between my turkey, so I had to figure what size paper I'd need for the box allowing for the sides and the tabs.  Using the method illustrated on the picture below, 5.50" x 4.50 would be the paper size I'd need for the treat box:

I'd already figured I wanted my box to be 1" deep as that would be enough to hold several small candies and not so deep as to make my turkey look like 2 turkeys!!!  You'll see what I mean!!!   Because a visual always helps me with where my scoring will be, I draw out the box according to the width, length, sides, and tabs on the 5.50" x 4.50" sheet of paper.   Doing this shows me I would score at 1", 2.50", 3.50" , and 5" across the 5.50" side of the paper, and at 1" across the 4.50" side of paper.  As a rule, I always allow the same number of inches for my bottom tabs as I do for the sides of my box, and only 1/2" for the side closure tab:

Once I cut out my paper size and scored it, I folded along the score lines; cut the bottom tabs up to the bottom 1" score line, and cut out the bottom tab beneath the side closure tab -- as shown below:

I then adhered the treat box together by gluing the side tab to the opposite end side, and gluing the bottom tabs in place -- you know how to glue a box!!!  Lol!!!  Here's what the glued box looked liked when measured to my box illustration -- Perfect Fit... always!!!:

Now, I glued the back side of the second set of turkeys together!  Having my 2 sets of turkeys and my box, and being I'd covered up the drawn illustration, I glued my box in place approximately where I figured I'd measured it to go:

I then glued the other turkey set to the top side of the treat box to get this:

By manipulating the feet and the bottom wings, I got my turkey to stand on his own -- I'm sure the 2 sheets of cardstocks used to glue the 2 turkeys images together helped with it being sturdy enough.

Pretty cool, huh?!!!  Well, of course I'm not done yet, I have to decorate it!!!  Before highlighting the turkey with black, orange and yellow stickles, adding the ribbon and candies, I used a hot glue -- for instant gratification -- to glue together the two turkey heads and along the breast to give the appearance of it being one turkey -- this is why I didn't want the treat box to be too deep.  Well, it's all done!!!  Wanna see it again?

I really hope you like this little project, it was so much fun to do!!!  And, hopefully, you'll try it -- you can always follow my means of measurement to get that perfect fit for your internet image treat box... lol!!!

Should you have any questions, you can always click on my name at the top of this post (it's a direct link to my blog) and leave me a comment; I'll get back to you!
