ANYONE UP FOR SOME EASY FASHION JEWELRY?

Hello, it's Audrey again!  Glad to be back with another project for you, and it's got to be the fastest and easiest tutorial I've done for you yet!!!

Before getting started, I'd like to thank my sweet host, Pam, for having me back.

I'd also like to, again, acknowledge those in the southern areas affected by the horrific and devasting storms; my thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Well, it seems like jewelry-making is making a fast comeback, and I'm loving getting into it more also (especially using resin).  Anyway, being the case and having little time these last several weeks to do much crafting, I needed a fast and easy project for this month; I thought "why not some quick and easy jewelry".  I have lots of old jewelry pieces and findings, so after sorting through some of what I have, it didn't take much thought to come up with this super easy fashion jewelry set of a bracelet, ring, and pendant:

Isn't this pretty and wouldn't it be a great gift for someone?  Even for yourself?!!!

Searching through some old pieces, I settled on an old broken necklace that had some really pretty smokey quartz looking gems on it.  I used wire cutters and cut away several of the gems to use for this project:

Here are the other items I used:
  • Pendant chain
  • Ring blank (this one I purchased from Michaels)
  • Cheap cuff bracelet (found mine at one of those cheap little jewelry stores you find in most shopping malls.  An inexpensive bangle can also be used.)
  • Glue-on bails (I usually make my own simple wire wrapped bails; however  the one I used on this pendant chain I purchased at at Hobby Lobby. Both bails are pictured above though.)
  • E-6000 glue (must be a strong adhesive)
Now here's all I did:  for the pendant, I simply glued the bail to the back of one of the gems and inserted the pendant chain; for the ring, I glued a gem onto the ring blank; and for the cuff bracelet,  I glued a  gem onto the center of the bracelet.  That's it!!!  Told you it was easy!!!  Now it's your turn!!!  Use your imagination and have some fun!  You can do this using old and odd items you probably already have around the house!

I've old jewelry findings I've found at flea markets, dollar stores, some donated from family and friends, Walmart, even items I've found on the street.  Thrift stores are great for finding old jewelry/findings.  I even have some old buttons and hardware store items which would make great jewelry, and you can get a package with a bunch of colored gems from Walmart for almost pennies.  I collect and save everything --old, broken, etc.!!!  Tools and additional supplies I've purchased from Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Etsy, Walmart, and on-line craft suppliers.

I hope you like my jewelry set!  If so, keep an eye on my blog where I'll be doing several quick and easy mixed media pieces with some really odd items.  And I'll have tutorials on how to make "your own" bails, attaching connectors, and more -- so you'll be able to get more ideas to make your own!  Now gather all those old pieces you have around the house you thought you were going to trash and start making jewelry; just don't throw them away!

Think I'm going to run now to cut off 2 more gems, glue on some earring backs for a matching set of earrings...LOL!!!  Now that would really be a complete set!!!

Thanks for joining me today, and I'll be seeing you!

Oh My! Oh My! Oh My!

You know from the time of 3rd party issues in cutterworld I have been saying I want another cutter. I am NOT boycotting. But as I said to scrap my wedding and important events I need to make my own images. That's why I learnt designing at Jessica Sprague's
Well  I though it was a long way in the future and hubby too said in 6 months we will consider . He had earlier asked me to narrow down to 2 machines and this time after adequate research as he was not happy with the Imagine. So I did. Since I knew it was 6 months away I thought why not go in for 24 inches and  so narrowed down to Black cat cougar and knk maxx (klic - n cut) . Boy! These are the Ferrari's and Lamborghini in my book
I talked to Sandy - knk and Dawn and Sherri - cougar and what great helpful and knowledgeable and PATIENT women they all are. They answered all my questions so honestly. I made a comparison - pros and cons list and submitted to hubby.
You cannot loose in both the machines. They match. Only difference I found was knk has bolt table and also it is US based while cougar  has one distributor in US and is UK based. That's about  the main apart from some extra speed  stops in cougar I think.OK now comes the Oh My !Oh My !Oh My part :)
Hubby has gone and ordered this for my wedding anniversary which was last week. I got a hint when my son was talking when he saw me watching E2. He said something like you are not going to watch that Mommy etc and when I asked why he said that - by his answers I knew something fishy was going on and when I confronted hubby later on he said yes. And then Sandy emailed me with congrats and I knew for sure. But that's still not the Oh My part!. The Oh My part is because guess what turned up? EAGLE ULTRAFORCE and not knk maxx.
Yep eagle is twice the force of knk. Check this site out http://scrapbookdiecutter.com/
Since they ran out of knk maxx till they get the shipment instead of dropping a customer they just upgraded free of cost! Yahoo!!! So not only did I get the extras when ordering knk maxx according to the site I got an eagle. I am thinking about the chipboards I can cut. I can put a roll of vinyl as it is.  Well I should thank the boycotters lol even though I am not boycotting. I guess because of them lots of cutters have been sold out and I get an Eagle!!!
It is like while air travelling. When one is upgraded to first class. I always wanted to be upgraded and used to look green eyed at those who got upgraded. But this is so so much better!
OH WOW! I cannot wait to talk further with Sandy! She is known for awesome support! Her blog - http://www.iloveknk.com/

Ok here are the pictures.

Now have to wait for hubby and son to move this baby upstairs! It is almost 3 feet long! Now off to check out all the goodies!

Elegant Damask Card

Hi

This is Pam today. Lately I have not been creating much . No Mojo . When I mentioned this in the MB and that I have some unopened cartridges -  many said open and start cutting. So I opened Damask and then also an Elegant Recollections (8.5 x 11) pack and started playing. Remember how I had said I got some crocheted doilies a while back so I played. I took just one image - Damask 17 and then cut the silhoutte feature in 2 inches using black cardstock  - qty 2 and then did a shift silhoutte in  white cardstock at 3 1/2 and 3 - 3/4th . A black envelope and card as base and cutting some papers from elegant recollections pack and using Martha Stewart punch (I think this was flower punch) and voila a card ready. I have also used some tulle and satin knotted together in a bow and I made a jewellary pin. So eacy making them. Took a strand of jewellery wire and threaded a bead in centre and twisted it. Then added some buttons and beads.
I used one of the white damask stamped it with paper trey ink sentiment and added it to the inside of the card and used the other white shadow damask to the envelope. Of course some blings.

So here goes the pictures

The card

The inside

The close up of the pin

And the lace -  It was white so to pop up I just used a sharpie . Love the effect of sharpie on thread/stitches.

So once again the card and envelope

What a Haul! and Thanks to Gina and AllisonF

Well before I share my haul. I just wanted to Thank Gina Piazza and AllisonF for sending me this.

Here's what Gina Piazza sent

And here's what AllisonF sent. With her note. Look to whom it is addressed .This girl is a hoot I tell you

How sweet. She said in the MB that Royal Garden reminded her of how I would like it. Oh yes I do! Love it and can't wait for it to come to Joanns for $9.99 when I will get it.

Thanks both of you and Hugs!

Now I blame Okie for this. She posted about going to Tueday Morning. Yesterday when I went to walmart to get my son a white T-Shirt for Tie & Die which they are going to do at school - of course I had to drop in at Ross and look what I found.
My Mind's eye - opened pack for 5.99 and other's at 11.99 . You know me so I got the 2 opened ones ol for 5.99. No papers are missing but they have just come out of binding.
Then I guess since walmart is next door they had the extra color boxes dumped there so I picked up them from 2.99-3.99. And there was another paper which looked textured like color box and bazill - called pressed petals.o around same range 3.99. I will open one and see if it cuts well else I may return them or just use them as mat or for cards etc.
So here is my haul

60th Birthday Boxes

Thank you for letting me be this weeks guest designer. My name is Flo and I am from New Zealand.
My brother in law was turning 60 and the delema of what to give someone who is 60 but still thinks hes only 30! who had said NO PRESENTS!
I did an online class where we made a star box and after finishing the star thought the same principles could be put to great use with any shape. I was right and I came up with this box in the shape of a 6 and an 0. These are proper boxes that I filled with mini chocolate bars for him. I often find it hard to think of presents for men but this went down a treat and was so easy to make with the help of the cricut.

This is the 60 boxes together.

This is where I have taken off the lids so you can see inside. There was chocies inside by the time they got to the recipient.

The front of the zero showing the plastic in the hole in the centre and the tools on the top. I also inked the edges.

Below is the sides of the box decorated with ribbon and happy Birthday peel offs

How I did the '60' boxes
What I did was cut out my 2 numbers the 6 and the 0 (zero) on my cricut expression using the Cricut Mickey Font cartridge using shadow at 5.5 inches.
Using Cricut design studio (my Gypsy had just got sick :-( , (but it is well and working again now) I cut a 6 and a 0 (zero) in DSP (that comes from a stack I have in my very large stash) and another 6 and 0 in DSP that had the centre holes hidden on hide contour (this was for the bottom). I did the same cuts again in plain cardstock.
I then cut the sides for the boxes (in DSP) deciding that I would have a slightly shorter lid than bottom to the box so cut the lid sides at 1.5 inches and the sides for the bottom at 2 inches. The length (ahh this was a challenge).

This is the long side of the paper used for the side with the top scored, and this is the 6 (looking at it backwards)

I started by scoring along the long side of my paper for the sides, at 1/2in.

I then marked the length of the top of the 6 (I have marked it in pen in the drawing above), I scored vertically the side of the top of the box so I would know where it needed to be folded and maked the point where the acute angle of the 6 was (that's the sharp angle). From there I cut 1/2 in cuts the length of the side strip into the strip to where the score mark was. I then glued the edge to the top of the plain cardstock. When the paper ran out I just added another strip till I had the outside completed.

When I had the side glued to the top of the box I then added the plastic onto the hole in the top of the box and added the DSP 6 to the top on the outside then on the inside it has a nice tidy finish and on the outside it looks good too. I then did the same for the zero.
I cut tools out of the Cricut Lite Handiman cartridge on the imagine using colours from the Snapshot texture cartridge. I cut them 1.7 - 2in in size and layered them. The ladder side is so thin I wondered how it had cut so well but it did. The saw has a little jagered edge just like a real saw has.

I finished it off by added a two tone brown ribbon round the base of the top of the box, again I had this ribbon in my stash.

Recipie for one number
Cut two of the number from plain cardstock and 2 from DSP (designer series paper)
For the top side measure how long you want the side depth and add 1/2 in or 1cm to this measurement. Cut strips of DSP enough to go around the number you are doing. You can join these side pieces especially if they are in patterned paper as the joins don't show as much or you can camoflage the joins with cutouts ie like the tools.
For the side of the bottom do the same. I made the bottom side of the box bigger than the top so the top sat up a bit.
When I put the sides on the top I did this so the cut pieces were over the top of the plain cardstock and then I glued the DSP number over the top to cover the side cuts that glued to the top.
With the bottom of the box I glued the sides to the number so that the cut pieces were on the top of the plain cardstock and then placed the DSP inside the bottom so it again covered the cuts that were glued.
I did make the top and the bottom exactly the same size as it easily squishes together.
I would suggest that if you would like to do something like this practice on scrap paper to see how it works.
I loved the final result and so did my brother-in-law, he didn't like being remined he was 60 so I suggested he turn the numbers round and become 06 then someone suggested he was lucky it wasn't the other way round showing a 9.

Thanks for looking and thanks again to Pam and the crew for allowing me to show you what I have done.

A Dozen Cards Keep Me Busy Along With My Dallas Make And Takes

Hi, this is Sheila from Shes A Sassy Lady and I feel so priviledged to be able to share with you here today on The BugBytes!
You know sometimes you just don't have access to your cutting machines or all of your supplies so you need to work with what you have on hand. Recently my mother had surgery and I went to her home to assist her while she was recovering. I spent the weekend and took my handy bag, some markers, colored pencils and some digital stamps (from TiddlyInks) and went to work creating in a very quiet setting. My father sat in the dining room with me and we talked while I colored and readied my stamps on the first day while mother slept soundly in another room.

Thought you would like to see some of the close ups of the artwork. Look at the little buttons on his jacket I used Glossy Accents on them and the Hi.
The little puppies were just adorable and can be used for just about any sentiment. After printing off my computer I colored him with markers and shaded him with colored pencils. Then I used Glossy Accents on the nose and eyes to make them look wet and then did a fussy cut to be able to just pop dot him on the card.
Yes I spent Friday afternoon coloring and preparing all these little pieces of digital art to make cards on Saturday. The following day she sat at the table with me and did a little sewing while I continued cutting and pasting and using the materials I had on hand. I hope you enjoy the little video showing you the cards I made.

This is a little video of the cards I made on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

These next couple of photos are some closeups of the make and take items while I was working on them.

Isn't this a great little tag to present a photo in? This is one of the make and takes at the Dallas Stampede that I did not have time to complete.
This is also another make and take and is a wonderful bookmark. I didn't do it the way they show as I like my book marker better!!
Don't you just love this flower? It was the first make and take I received and I just love it! Please click on the photo to see an enlargement of the flower.
On Sunday my Mother felt well enough for a little ride to Joann's so she went to the fabric section and I went to the paper section of the store! LOL When I got back from the store I put together this little shaker card I had cut and ready for the Stampede in Dallas but never got put together as we ran out of time. I hope you enjoy this card... I just love shaker cards as they are so cool and really make the recipient feel special.
I sure hope you enjoyed today's post... I know there sure was a lot to look at! A full bakers dozen in cards and 3 make and takes to boot. Don't forget you can click on any photo to enlarge it if you want to see in more detail.
Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement, your comments continue to inspire me!
