Oh aye, that's been gone a while now. I think it was part of the "cutting everything on all layers at onces problem back in the Very Bad Update just before some holiday (Christmas?).
Version 1.
Good new is, there is an end run around the problem, even if it's a bit of a pain to do so. Cut the file and hit return to design. If you really want to add the designs permanently to the file, hit save after you've added everything. Delete the things you've just cut before you added to the design, and cut. Be sure not to save the design or you'll be missing the first bits.
Verison 2:
Add a layer and add the items to that new layer, making sure not to overlap anything from the first layer. You don't need to reload, just return to design after the first cut, then go to the second layer and cut :D.
There are more versions, but they are a bit redundant, so I'll skip them!
Luckily, I haven't noticed because my computer is upstairs and my Gypsy is downstairs so I haven't gotten to the update yet!
I haven't done the latest update, so I haven't seen the change. That is a feature I had not used in the past, so I guess I will not miss it.
